THE METHODOLOGY

How we calculate your points value

Points value is measured in value per point — how much one point is worth in cash. A programme's points can be worth very different amounts depending on the redemption: a cash statement credit sits at the low end, while a premium-cabin long-haul award sits at the high end.

Gast's estimates are curated ranges — a conservative floor and an upper end — sourced from our programme data and updated regularly by the Gast team. Your actual value depends on the specific award you book.

These are not live market rates. The calculator uses Gast's curated value data and a curated currency-conversion rate, reviewed periodically — not fetched from programme pricing engines. For the most current data, always check the official programme website.

About shared currencies

Avios earned via British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair, Vueling, Qatar, and Barclays Avios all sit in one Avios balance — the calculator treats them as a single currency. The same applies to Flying Blue (Air France + KLM) and Miles & More (Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian).

Points value, answered

Avios are worth about 1.1–2.0 euro cents per point in Gast's curated data — a conservative-to-upper range depending on the redemption (cash/statement-credit at the floor, premium-cabin long-haul at the upper end). These are curated estimates, updated regularly — not a live market rate.

It depends on the route, cabin, and airline — British Airways uses a distance-based Avios chart, so short-haul returns need far fewer Avios than long-haul or premium-cabin awards. Use the calculator to see what your balance is worth in cash; the exact Avios for a specific route is shown on the British Airways / Avios site at booking.

Your miles’ value depends on the programme and redemption. Premium-cabin airline awards and the right hotel redemptions tend to give the highest cents-per-point; cash-out redemptions the lowest. Use the calculator above — pick your programme, enter your balance, and see the range in your home currency across all 30 EU programmes Gast tracks.

Avios are worth collecting if you can redeem above the floor — typically premium-cabin flights on British Airways, Iberia, or oneworld partners. One advantage: Avios is a shared currency across British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair, Vueling, Qatar, and Barclays Avios — all in one balance, so they compound. Whether Avios beats cash for a specific booking is a deterministic calculation Gast Plus handles with the Points-or-Cash verdict.
